Catablog of Music .V2.
This was the second volume of the Composed and Conducted- Catablog of music.
Volume 1 spawned a variety of genres and styles, uncovered gems and warmed the cockles of many a music lover. Many thanks to all who contributed!
This week volume 2 will be lighting more fires than an evening with Will Young and Simon Cowell combined.
This is another opportunity to share, recommend and find music that may not necessarily find the light of day or just may be of interest to other people. The aim is to have a directory of great music or what I have coined a catablog of music.
Please add your three (max) picks to this week’s catablog. Format is as follows;
Genre
Artist
Song
youtube link
myspace link (if you can be bothered)
abit of blurb, two sentences max (if you’re keen)

Nu-Soul
Quantic Soul Orchestra

Father – (Myspace)
QSO feat Spanky Wilson (sunshine of my love track) youtube
QSO myspace – (father)
QSO, headed by front man Quantic, bring big energy to great music. This funk/soul outfit have managed to tear the house down every time i’ve heard them play, great on wax even better live!
UK Hip Hop/Grime
Hoodman

Home of the brave
Hoodman – Ringa roses Youtube
Hoodmans Myhood sorry Myspace page
What you call it? Who knows, I’m not a huge advocate of UK hip hop, Grime, Street music, but when an artist with potential comes around I have no choice but to say something about it. HOODMAN, is one of those artists who deserves a mention and if you don’t believe me listen to Home of The brave on his Myspace and tell me different.
Leftfield
Beck

Cellphone’s dead
Cellphone’s dead youtube
Beck Myspace
The guy is an eccentric musical genius that will never be overlooked. Cellphone’s Dead is a classic track, with an irresistible beat and baseline; so good I broke into a dance routine whilst in a GAP store, thankfully they didn’t call the police!
DSiot. – A don’t sleep on it Creation.

Indie+Afrobeat – Vampire Weekend
These guys are getting quite popular nowadays. Vampire Weekend hail from New York offering a blend of indie infused with African samples and strings. Not everyone’s taste but worth a quick listen.
My fav song of theres is Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa below….

Soul+Electronica+HipHop – Essensual
A new artist raised in Germany, France, the UK and now living in London. Suffice it to say, this guy brings a splash of rhythm, ryhmes and lyrics. Its difficult to categorize his music but if you like soul, or elctronica or hip hop, you will definitely like him….
MyfFav song of his is Brazilian Beauty

Awesome tracks, awesome voice. Quite happy to stay underground too which demands respect.
Hiphop
Viktor Vaughn / MF Doom
Mr Clean

Not new by any means, but I would imagine most people that flit into and out of hip hop have missed out. Off key lyrics, no chorus, all good.
Dubstep
Distance
Night Vision

Quite simply, a banger. Check out the Skream remix for a tune that will literally make your brain fall out of your ears.

This is the proper stuff. People always chat about electro disco house bassline thumping bla bla. They know SHIT. This album (on the famous German KOMPAKT label) is what its all about. £8 on Amazon is a bargain, it will convert even the most sceptical!
Radiohead
Radiohead
In Rainbows

I just can’t put them into a genre- they are so far ahead of anything ‘Indie’. Their genre can be Radiohead. I wasn’t a fan of their last 3 or 4 albums but this one is PURE MINDBLOWING GENIUS. Listen to Weird Fishes/Arpeggi on their myspace and try telling me any different.
Lo-fi Indie Fun Stuff
The Whitest Boy Alive
Dreams

Lots of people probably know this already, but i’m listing it because anyone who doesn’t know it is missing out bigtime. Light, airy summer fun. Check track ‘Burning’ on the Myspace. Lovely.
This is fun. Keep it up Damola!

Twee-pop
The Deirdres
Sir Michael of Aspel
http://www.myspace.com/thedeirdres
7 piece chirpy indie loveliness from disgustingly young Derby 7 piece with an antiques roadshow obsession. Saw them at Carpe Diem on Saturday and they was boss.
Firey-Country Rockabilly
The Brute Chorus
Chateau (but all the tracks on myspace are quality)
http://www.myspace.com/thebrutechorus
Saw them supporting NME’s new big hypes Glasvegas and they absolutely blew the headlines off the stage. Some great Elvis-like hip swinging as well.
Electro-silliness
Late of the Pier
Broken (Fairy Light mix)
http://www.myspace.com/lateofthepier
Arch young synth fiddlers who are being hyped all over the place. This is on the new Kitsune Maison compilation (number 5) which also includes an ace Fischerspooner track. (http://www.myspace.com/maisonkitsune)

Off the awesome album ‘Drowning in a Sea of Love’, from James Holdens label ‘Border Community’. Nathan Fake unleashes the rock beast within on psychedelic casio rock epic ‘The Sky Was Pink’.
